FAQ about autoload

Autoload is a procedure for automatically topping up student and service cards (hereinafter referred to as cards) at the checkouts of the student union's canteens and cafeterias. The card can be topped up either by SEPA direct debit or by Paypal. If the minimum credit balance is not reached during a payment transaction with the card, you will be asked by the cashier whether you would like to top up your credit. If yes, the top-up amount you have previously specified will be loaded onto the card and debited from your account by direct debit or charged to your PayPal account.

If you are not sure whether your account is covered, you can also refuse the top-up at the till and top up your credit without cash or with banknotes at one of the top-up machines.

An example: You have set a minimum credit of 5 euros and a top-up amount of 20 euros. By purchasing a meal in the canteen, you fall below the minimum balance of 5 euros and are then asked by the checkout staff whether you would like to top up. If you agree, your card will automatically be topped up with the fixed top-up amount of 20 euros, which will be debited from your account by direct debit or PayPal. If you decline, the price of the meal will be deducted from your card without topping up.

The autoload procedure helps to avoid long waiting times in the canteens and cafeterias. You can also avoid having to queue at the revaluator. Autoload is cashless, secure and uncomplicated and ensures faster processes in the canteens. You can also use the online portal at kartenservice.studentenwerk-freiberg.de view the transactions of the last 179 days and therefore never lose track of your transactions.

You can register for Autoload at the manned cash desks in the canteens or in the Hörsaalcafé Freiberg. You will need your student or staff ID card and a photo ID for identity verification. You will then receive access to your personal card service. Here you can then set up SEPA direct debit or direct debit via PayPal. Alternatively, our colleagues at the service points will also be happy to set up the SEPA direct debit for you - this requires a valid EC card issued in your name.

HintYou will need your card number to use the card service. You will be given this number when you register for the first time.

The card is topped up at the request of the cashier when you pay if you have less than the specified minimum balance. It is therefore no longer necessary to queue at the top-up machine. In principle, it is also possible to top up your card at the top-up machines if your credit falls below the minimum balance.

Under kartenservice.studentenwerk-freiberg.de a password-protected online portal is available to you. Here you can view your transactions for the last 179 days and set the minimum balance and top-up amount. You can also change your password, withdraw your direct debit authorisation or block your card. You can only use this card service if you ask for the access data at a checkout. It is not absolutely necessary to set up Autoload. You can also view your sales via the card service without setting up Autoload.

Note: You will need your card number to use the card service. You will be given this number when you register for the first time.

The minimum balance is the amount of money below which you will be asked at the till whether you wish to top up.

The top-up amount is the amount that is credited to your card balance when topping up and debited from your account by direct debit. The top-up amount must be at least €10.00.

You determine both amounts yourself.

You specify the amounts for the minimum credit balance and the top-up amount either when you conclude the Autoload agreement at the service points in the canteens or when you set it up yourself in the online portal. These amounts can be changed at any time in the online portal of the card service at kartenservice.studentenwerk-freiberg.de can be changed. The top-up amount must be at least €10.00.

To prevent misuse, topping up is only possible once a day.

If a chargeback occurs after topping up with Autoload due to an unfunded bank account, the Mensa card will be blocked as the topping up of the Mensa card from an unfunded bank account has caused debt to the Studentenwerk.

If you use Autoload in conjunction with PayPal, the situation is slightly different. PayPal makes an advance payment for you. This means that the Studentenwerk receives the money and credits it to your card. In this case, you will be in debt to the payment service provider PayPal.

Payment arrears can be paid in cash at the canteen administration offices. The card will then be unblocked and can be used for Autoload again. It is possible to block a card for Autoload in the event of repeated problems.

A payment arrears arises as follows: If the card is topped up via Autoload, the amount will be debited from your account after approximately three to five working days. It may happen that the bank refuses the direct debit for various reasons. In this case, both the user's bank and the Studentenwerk's bank will charge a chargeback fee. The overdue amount is made up of the amount of the top-up and the fees.

If you use Autoload in conjunction with PayPal, there may be a payment arrears between PayPal and you. This cannot be settled with the Studentenwerk. You must contact PayPal promptly for this.

If the student ID card or canteen card is lost, the card holder must replace the card as soon as possible on their own responsibility, either online at kartenservice.studentenwerk-freiberg.de or in the canteen administrations in order to prevent misuse by third parties. The Studentenwerk Freiberg is in no way liable for misuse that was favoured or caused by the loss.

Before returning a card, Autoload must either be kartenservice.studentenwerk-freiberg.de or deactivated in the canteen administration.
