Studying in Freiberg and Mittweida

Everything you need to know about studying in Freiberg or Mittweida can be found on the website of your future university.

The International University Centre "Alexander von Humboldt" in Freiberg (short: IUZ) and the International Office in Mittweida (short: AAA) have compiled all the information you need before and during your studies.

Accommodation at the Studentenwerk and private accommodation

The Studentenwerk operates approx. 1,000 student residences in Freiberg and approx. 500 in Mittweida. If you would like to find a new home in one of our halls of residence, you should submit an application in good time.

Registration

As a foreign citizen, you must register within two weeks at the registration office with your main residence in Germany. You must present your identity card or passport and the tenancy agreement.

The same deadline also applies to re-registration and deregistration, i.e. if you change your residence within the city or Germany or return to your home country after your studies.

You can get all the information you need at the citizens' offices in Freiberg or Mittweida.

BAföG for foreign students

It is not the rule that foreign students are entitled to BAföG - the German version of student finance. However, there are exceptions.

If you are unsure whether you are entitled to this type of funding, please seek advice from our colleagues at the BAföG office.
