Old canteen in Freiberg

The Studentenwerk Freiberg maintains the student house "Alte Mensa" in the centre of the city, in the immediate vicinity of the Obermarkt, for the cultural support of the students of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg.

Catering has existed at this location for over 450 years. Once used as a hotel and dance hall, it is now a cultural centre not only for Freiberg students and houses the university's ballroom.

They have also found their home under this roof:

• the Department for Educational Assistance (BAföG Office)
• the social services of the Studentenwerk and
• the student club "Klubhaus e.V."
• and many AGs.

Various rooms are available for cultural activities:

• the student club - capacity approx. 250 seats
• the club cellar "Abgang" - capacity approx. 70 seats
• the "small stage" - approx. 20 seats
• the living room - approx. 20 seats
• the drawing studio
• the photo studio

The ground floor and basement are run by "Klubhaus e.V.", a student club dedicated to Freiberg's student cultural programme. The offer includes live concerts and lectures as well as discos and cinema or even jazz and carnival.
