Federal voluntary service

The Federal voluntary service (Bundesfreiwilligendienst / BFD) is an engagement-political project: its aim is to create a new culture of voluntariness in Germany and to make it possible for as many people as possible to become involved in the community.*

What is there to do in the Studentenwerk?

The Studentenwerk currently offers BFD positions in the housing department (both locations) as well as in the day nurseries (Freiberg only). These positions can be filled depending on the availability of the federal contingent.

Who can participate?

Anyone who has fulfilled their full-time compulsory schooling obligation and is at least 18 years old can become involved in the Federal Voluntary Service in the Studentenwerk Freiberg. Gender, nationality or the type of school leaving certificate are irrelevant. People who are 27 years or older can also work part-time (more than 20 hours per week).

The Federal Voluntary Service is aimed in particular at people who

  • want to work practically after school or university,
  • want to bridge the time until the beginning of studies or training,
  • not yet know exactly in which direction you want to go professionally and would like to get to know new fields of work,
  • are working, but would like to reorient themselves,
  • want to gain work experience without preassure
  • want to do something for other people during a time-out, or
  • would like to commit themselves to the common good after their professional life.*

What do I get during voluntary service?

The framework conditions for the Federal Voluntary Service are uncomplicated. The overriding goal is to provide an enriching service for all those who would like to get involved. Volunteers receive

Instruction and pedagogical guidance

A specialist supervises the volunteer at the placement; all volunteers receive free seminars.

Pocket money

The volunteers receive pocket money, which they agree upon in agreement with the placement. The maximum limit is currently 378.00 euros (40 hours/week). Work clothes and food can be provided, or corresponding financial compensation can be granted.

Contribution in kind - Azubi-Ticket

The volunteers also receive a travel allowance of 48.00 euros. That's how much the Azubi-Ticket costs in a subscription for one trafic area.

Social security

Volunteers in the Federal Voluntary Service are provided with social insurance coverage similar to that of trainees.  The entire contributions for pension, accident, health, nursing and unemployment insurance are paid by the placement.

Certificate

After completing the BFD, the volunteers receive a qualified certificate. *
